Your stomach produces powerful acid to help digest food—but that acid doesn't normally digest the stomach itself.
YOUR STOMACH REPLACES ITS LINING EVERY FEW DAYS!
It helps break down food and creates an environment where many harmful microbes struggle to survive.
Your stomach contains hydrochloric acid.
Stomach Acid Is Powerful
This mucus helps shield the underlying stomach cells from acid and digestive enzymes. It's one of your body's cleverest defenses.
stomach wall is covered by a thick mucus barrier
Stomach WALL
So the surface cells are continually replaced.New cells develop and move into position as older or damaged cells are removed.
he cells lining your stomach are constantly exposed to a harsh environment.
INNER Stomach WALL LINING DON'T LAST
The stomach's surface lining is renewed roughly every few days. The exact turnover time varies depending on the type of cell and the part of the stomach.
NEW CELL LINING IN Every Few Days
While you're eating, digesting and sleeping…your stomach is continuously maintaining itself.Cells divide, migrate, mature and are eventually shed or replaced.
our Body Is Always Repairing
The protective mucus layer contains bicarbonate, which helps neutralize acid near the stomach lining.Together, mucus and bicarbonate create a protective zone between stomach acid and the stomach wall.
The Mucus Is Crucial
If the stomach's defenses are weakened or damaged, acid can contribute to injury. This can happen in conditions such as peptic ulcers. That's why maintaining the stomach's protective barrier is so important.
When Protection Breaks Down
If the stomach's defenses are weakened or damaged, acid can contribute to injury. This can happen in conditions such as peptic ulcers. That's why maintaining the stomach's protective barrier is so important.
When Protection Breaks Down
