Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Millions of LPG consumers across India are racing against the clock. Public sector oil marketing companies — IndianOil (Indane), Bharat Petroleum (Bharat Gas), and Hindustan Petroleum (HP Gas) — have set August 16, 2026 as the deadline for domestic LPG customers to complete their Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC. Miss it, and you could lose access to cylinders at subsidized domestic rates until your verification is done.
If you’ve received an SMS reminder from your gas provider and haven’t acted on it yet, here’s everything you need to know — what LPG e-KYC is, why it matters, how to complete it in minutes from home, and what happens if you don’t.
What Is LPG e-KYC and Why Is It Mandatory?
e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) links your Aadhaar biometric or face-scan data to your LPG consumer ID. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas made this Aadhaar-based verification mandatory in March 2026 to:
- Curb black-marketing and illegal diversion of subsidized domestic cylinders to commercial use
- Ensure LPG subsidies under the PAHAL (Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG) scheme reach genuine households
- Weed out duplicate or “ghost” connections
- Confirm that Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries are correctly verified, since PMUY customers must renew this KYC annually
Enforcement drives have already seized thousands of cylinders and conducted large-scale raids nationwide as part of this crackdown, which is why oil companies are now pushing hard for compliance before the deadline.
Who Needs to Complete e-KYC?
- Any domestic LPG customer who has not yet completed biometric or face-authentication e-KYC
- PMUY (Ujjwala Yojana) beneficiaries, who must re-verify every year to keep receiving their subsidy
- Households with a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection are no longer allowed to simultaneously hold a subsidized LPG connection — this check is also part of the e-KYC drive
If you’ve already completed e-KYC in the past 12 months and your provider’s app shows your status as “Verified,” you do not need to repeat the process.
What Happens If You Miss the August 16 LPG e-KYC Deadline?
According to the advisory sent by IndianOil and other OMCs:
“Failure to do e-KYC by 16.08.2026 would make you ineligible for cylinders at domestic rates till e-KYC is completed.”
In practice, this means:
- Your LPG connection will not be cancelled, but it will be temporarily inactive for subsidized bookings until you complete e-KYC
- You may be charged the commercial LPG rate — currently above ₹2,000 in most cities — instead of the domestic rate of roughly ₹940–₹970 for a 14.2 kg cylinder
- PMUY beneficiaries risk losing their ₹300-per-cylinder subsidy and may face delays in DBT (direct benefit transfer) payments until records are re-verified
- Online booking of refills may be temporarily blocked for unverified connections
Documents and Prerequisites You’ll Need To Complete LPG e-KYC
Keep these ready before you start:
- 12-digit Aadhaar number, linked to your active mobile number
- 17-digit LPG Consumer ID (printed on your gas passbook or subscription voucher)
- Registered mobile number (RMN) to receive OTPs
- A stable internet connection and a smartphone with a working camera (for face authentication)
- If your Aadhaar biometrics are locked, unlock them first on the UIDAI portal — the e-KYC process will fail otherwise

- Download the Hello BPCL app.

- Register yourself with your mobile number and LPG consumer details.
- Go to the e-KYC / Aadhaar verification section.

Alternative Ways to Complete e-KYC
If the app-based process doesn’t work for you, you can also:
- Visit your LPG distributor’s office in person
- Complete verification through your delivery personnel at the time of a cylinder delivery
- Use the UMANG app, which also supports Aadhaar OTP-based LPG e-KYC
- Check your status or complete e-KYC via MyLPG.in, the common portal for Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas customers
How to Check Your e-KYC Status
- Visit the MyLPG.in portal and select your provider (Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas).
- Log in with your registered mobile number and LPG consumer ID.
- Check your KYC status — it will show as Verified/Completed or Pending.
- Alternatively, check directly within your provider’s app (IndianOil ONE, Hello BPCL, or HP PAY), or contact your local distributor.

- Never share your Aadhaar OTP with anyone, including callers or delivery agents claiming to need it over the phone.
- If your Aadhaar biometrics are locked for security, unlock them temporarily via UIDAI before attempting e-KYC, then consider re-locking afterward.
Disclaimer:
Deadlines and rules around LPG e-KYC are subject to updates by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and individual oil marketing companies. Always confirm your status and any date changes directly through your provider’s official app or the MyLPG.in portal before the deadline.
