About the DIAT Recruitment 2026 Notification
The Department of Applied Mathematics at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, is looking for a young researcher to join a DRDO-funded project. The post is advertised as Senior Research Fellow (SRF) or Junior Research Fellow (JRF), and the official advertisement (No. 32-2026/SRF/JRF/DIAT) sets 9 November 2026 as the last date. With the deadline two days away, there is little time left to put an application together.

One Position, Two Levels: How the SRF-or-JRF Clause Works
The notice lists one SRF and one JRF post, but the two are not parallel openings. DIAT prefers an SRF for the project, and a JRF may be recruited only if no suitable SRF is found. Candidates who fall short of the SRF experience requirement should therefore still apply for the JRF level.
DIAT Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Senior Research Fellow (SRF)
- B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc. in Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, Modelling & Simulation, CSE, IT, Electronics or Electronics & Communication Engineering, in First Division, with NET/GATE; or
- BS-MS/M.E./M.Tech. in the same fields, with First Division at both graduate and postgraduate level.
- A minimum of 2 years of research, teaching or industrial experience in a relevant field is mandatory.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF)
- B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc. in the same fields, in First Division, with NET/GATE; or
- M.E./M.Tech. in the same fields, with First Division at both graduate and postgraduate level.
Desirable skills (both posts): Deep Learning, Data Mining, Time Series Analysis, Digital Signal Processing, Machine Learning, Python and thermal image processing. Familiarity with scikit-learn, PyTorch, Transformers, Keras and TensorFlow is also listed.
The qualification and experience must come from recognised universities, institutions or industries. The listed qualifications are described as a bare minimum, so meeting them does not guarantee a call for interview.
Age Limit and Relaxation
| Post | Upper age limit |
|---|---|
| SRF | Not exceeding 32 years |
| JRF | Not exceeding 28 years |
The age is counted as on 9 November 2026. The upper limit is relaxed by up to 5 years for SC/ST, women and PwBD candidates, and by 3 years for OBC (NCL) candidates.
Stipend and Tenure
- SRF: ₹42,000 per month plus 30% HRA
- JRF: ₹37,000 per month plus 30% HRA
The position is purely temporary, for 6 months or until the project ends, whichever comes first. Medical facilities are limited to MI Room services. Selected fellows are encouraged to register for a Ph.D. at the institute under DIAT norms. The appointment gives no right to absorption into DIAT.
How to Apply: Single PDF, Specific Subject Line
Applications go by email to the Principal Investigator, yogeshwar_singh@diat.ac.in. The subject line must read “Application for SRF or JRF”. Everything should be merged into one PDF file:
- A brief bio-data, duly signed
- The application form (available on the DIAT website)
- Proof of date of birth
- B.E./B.Tech and M.E./M.Tech mark sheets and degree certificates
Applications must reach the PI on or before 9 November 2026.
Selection Process and Interview Rules
Candidates are shortlisted on suitability for the project. If many applications arrive, the PI may limit the number of interview calls based on qualifications and experience above the minimum, so every qualification, publication and project report should be listed clearly with proof. Shortlisted candidates are informed individually by email, and the interview is held in person or by video conference, as DIAT decides. No TA/DA is paid for attending.
Candidates called for interview should carry the original application, all supporting documents, project reports and publications, plus one set of self-attested copies. A selected candidate is expected to join immediately on receiving the offer letter.
