PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: 100 Districts and the Four West Bengal Districts Chosen
How the six-year scheme picks low-performing farm districts, how it works through existing schemes, and what it means for Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jhargram.
01What the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana Is
The Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY) was approved by the Union Cabinet on 16 July 2025. It runs for six years from 2025-26 in 100 districts and brings together 36 existing schemes from 11 departments, along with state schemes and private partnerships, to lift farm productivity in districts that lag.
02How Districts Are Chosen
- Low agricultural productivity
- Low cropping intensity
- Low credit disbursement to farmers
- Every state gets at least one district. The share of the rest depends on net cropped area and the number of operational holdings.
03How It Is Run
- District Dhan-Dhaanya Samitis, which include progressive farmers, finalise the district plan.
- A monthly dashboard tracks 117 key indicators.
- NITI Aayog reviews progress.
04West Bengal Districts
Four districts of West Bengal are on the list: Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jhargram. The Prime Minister named them at Tarakeswar in Hooghly on 20 June 2026 as districts that would receive focused support, when he also released the 23rd PM-KISAN instalment and welcomed the start of PMFBY in the state. Hooghly itself is not on the list.
05What a Farmer Can Expect
- There is no separate application for PM-DDKY. Support flows through the district plan and the schemes it combines, such as irrigation, storage, credit and crop diversification.
- Farmers in the four districts can ask the district agriculture office which schemes have been prioritised for their block.
- Existing schemes such as PM-KISAN, Kisan Credit Card and PMFBY continue to be applied for in their own way.
