Fresh Airstrikes Kill Civilians as Israel Intensifies Military Operations in Gaza
Israel Intensifies Military Operations in Gaza carrying out a series of fresh airstrikes that have resulted in civilian casualties despite the ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas last year. The renewed violence has heightened concerns over the fragile truce and the worsening humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave.
Airstrike on Funeral Leaves Multiple Dead
One of the deadliest incidents occurred in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah, where an Israeli airstrike hit a funeral gathering, killing at least seven people and injuring more than 20 others, according to local hospital officials. The funeral was being held for a Palestinian who had reportedly been killed in an earlier strike the same day.
The Israeli military said it was targeting members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and acknowledged that civilians may have been harmed during the operation. Hamas condemned the attack, calling it a serious violation of international humanitarian norms.
Violence Persists Despite Ceasefire
Although Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in October 2025 that formally ended two years of war, violence has continued in several parts of Gaza. Israeli forces say they remain engaged in operations against militant groups, while Palestinian authorities report that civilians continue to bear the brunt of the hostilities.
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect. Israel, meanwhile, says its operations are aimed at preventing renewed attacks and dismantling militant infrastructure.

Humanitarian Concerns Deepen
Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned that continued military operations are worsening conditions for Gaza’s civilian population. Many residents remain displaced, while access to food, clean water, medical supplies and essential services continues to be severely restricted in several areas. Aid agencies have renewed calls for uninterrupted humanitarian access and stronger protection for civilians.
International Pressure Mounts
The latest escalation has prompted renewed international appeals for restraint. Governments and humanitarian organisations have urged all parties to respect the ceasefire agreement, protect civilians and return to negotiations aimed at securing a lasting peace. Diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader escalation in the region are continuing.
The situation in Gaza remains highly volatile, with fears that further military operations could undermine the already fragile ceasefire. International observers are closely monitoring developments as fresh diplomatic efforts seek to prevent another major escalation in the conflict.
